The Life Aquatic with Marc Marseglia

Working on the bathroom these past two weekends has led to quite a bit of day dreaming. Below are a few things that caused my mind to lose focus on the task at hand:

  • One time I looked at the tub and it reminded me of an old episode of “Get a Life” (circa 1991) with Chris Elliot. In the episode he purchased a mail order, build it yourself, submarine. He built the submarine in his tub and somehow filled the entire shower (without it every leaking) with water. The problem was he got stuck in the submarine and nearly suffocated to death. Moral of the story, don’t buy a build it yourself submarine. So I already know my answer should my child want to buy his/her own sub.
  • I was so tired last night and all I wanted to do was cuddle up with my wife to remind me why I spend my weekends working on the house. To my disappointment I was told to stay away. Luckily she fell asleep and I was able to hold her hand for a few minutes before she realized and grumbled at me incoherently while pulling her hand away.
  • Yesterday Kate got motivated to bring all the Christmas decorations down from the attic. I wish she would have been motivated to put the decorations out so I could put the boxes back up into the attic. Our kitchen is way too cluttered right now.
  • It is hard to believe that during this time next year I’ll have a baby that is almost 6 months old.
  • At no point in the baby naming process has Kate completely shot down the idea of giving a potential boy the middle name Knight. This is extremely promising for my chances of getting her to go agree with this brilliant middle name.
  • I’m already preparing myself for having to answering such questions as:
Why does Uncle Anthony stay in his bedroom all day?
Why does Uncle Greg live in the smelly basement?
Why does Banana Nana (Kate’s mom) worry about foolish things?
  • I can’t wait until we get out Christmas tree. It makes the entire house so much more festive.
  • A card night with the boys this Friday night might be just what the doctor ordered for my psyche. I feel like I’m getting away from certain things far too early. I understand I’m going to have to give these things up after the baby is born so I should get my fill now while I still can.

Extremely Stupid Thought of the Week

Over the years many people have come up with original and sometimes stupid ways to name their newborns. A few years back some guy in Oregon (or somewhere in the NW) convinced his wife to name their son “version 2.0” instead of Jr. While my idea isn’t quite as stupid as that, it’s still pretty foolish. So without further ado here is my idea for naming our child.

The day he/she is born Kate and I will assess our baby's appearance and produce a nickname middle name instead of a traditional middle name. I’ll use myself as an example. When I was born I was very skinny. I could have been named Marc “Bones” Marseglia. Or Kate could have been named Katie “Porkchop” McClintock. (That’s not a mis-print, Kate’s name on her birth certificate is actually Katie). This nickname middle name doesn’t have to in regard to the baby’s appearance either. If it’s a girl the baby will probably take after her mother in certain areas. So how about naming her Sophia “Shop girl” Marseglia, Claire “Crazy Legs” Marseglia, or Maggie “Stinky Feet” Marseglia? And if the baby is a boy how about Lucas “Beer Goggles” Marseglia? Other good names include Jackson “Five” Marseglia and Alexander “The Great” Marseglia. My only obstacle is convincing Kate that this is a good idea.

More Bad Thoughts

  • I don’t understand why Kate doesn’t just start wearing maternity clothes. Instead she just complains about her regular clothes starting to not fit anymore. It makes her mornings so much more stressful (and mine too).
  • I can’t fathom why someone needs to spend hours agonizing over what colors to choose for a bathroom. It shouldn’t take more than three minutes to choose a color scheme. Especially when you find the color that matches your towels, which is Kate’s goal.
  • I really can’t wait to find out the sex of the baby. It consumes my days.
  • I’ve been thinking about what the moment we find out what sex the baby is is going to be like. In my strange mind I think it’s going to be like an overtime playoff hockey game. Were at any moment I can be extremely excited and over whelmed with joy or I can be completely disappointed. Note: I will be fine if it’s a girl. The above blurb is in regard to my preference, not my opposition on having a little girl. I don’t care if I have four girls. As long as the first child is a boy. And obviously the health is #1.
  • I’m not looking forward to this weekend and re-doing the bathroom. This job is going to take me 25-30 man hours. And on average Kate asks me “do you know what you’re doing?” three times an hour. So I have a weekend of hearing Kate ask me that 75-90 times. My head might explode.
  • I think it’s time Kate’s aunt and uncle move up here from Atlanta. I think this is where they belong. They’ll be within a short driving distance of the shore and casinos. What more do they need? And I’m pretty sure I can talk at least 3 of their adult children to do the same.
  • What in the world is Andrew “Lloyd” Palsky waiting for? Do it already! Wuss!
  • In the past few days we’ve expanded our possible baby name list. I will post the list on the home page and I hope people offer their opinions on the names they like.

Daydream Believer

As I sit here thinking about what to do with myself now that my beautiful wife is pregnant I daydream. Instead of formulating a plan to demolish and redo our kitchen and bathroom I daydream. I think about the little things that someday will have a permanent place in my sketchy memory bank. I daydream about when I’ll see my baby’s first steps (god let me be there). I also think about what it’s going to be like to hear the word “dada” for the first. Heck I smile and some strange moisture develops near my eyes at the thought of seeing the look on my child’s face when he/she (we’ll find out the sex in mid to late January) enters this big scary world. The excitement and anticipation of these and many other events are one of the great parts of this whole process.

I think about the first time I’ll have to say “don’t touch that” or “don’t say that, it’s a bad word and I don’t care if mommy says it.” I wonder what the sex of the baby is going to be even though I know it’s already been determined weeks ago. I wonder if the baby is going to be tall like me or not tall like Kate. All of this has created an even more aloof me. When I get in my car sometimes I’ll drive for 15 minutes before realizing I never turned the radio on. Something I would have never done 2 months ago. I’m just completely spaced out daydreaming about what the future holds. Hopefully sometime soon I’ll start to snap out of it and start to refocus on the many tasks at hand.

More Thoughts from the Thoughtless One

Here are some more thoughts from the past few days:
  • Any touching is bad touching when Kate is pregnant. And hugs can only be considered smothering. Basically I can't put a finger on my wife for any reason unless she gives consent. So if anyone sees me I probably need a hug.
  • Apparently having a sweaty head when you sleep is a crime punishable by death in Kate's universe.

Random Grumblings

What’s the whole process going to be like? Am I going to be a good father? Do I have to get up in the middle of the night with Kate when the baby is fussing and needs to be fed? It’s not like I can feed the baby. Last I checked I’m unable to breast feed (but I’ll check again). While I figure out the answers to the questions above, here are some other things floating aimlessly through my empty melon:

  • Kate’s boobs are getting bigger every single day!
  • Watching the baby move around and watching the baby’s little heart beat during the ultrasound was like nothing I’ve ever seen before. It’s like there is an alien inside Kate.
  • Every day I think Kate looks better and better and every day she thinks she looks worse and worse. Why are girls this way?
  • Choosing the name for the baby is going to be a long and agonizing journey. But it’s one of those battles I am going to take on. The world needs more boys named Suge, Seabass, or Prince. And more girls named Sophia Marie.
  • I hope another married couple that we hang out with gets started making babies. It would be fun to go through this experience with others. And to have children the same age.
  • Is Kate’s mom going to try to move in with us after the baby is born? If so it’s okay because we have the nicest shed on the block. I’ll even run electric to it for her. Just kidding…………………..she doesn’t need electric.
  • Will my fantasy football team lose its hold as the most successful franchise in FHFL history (.631 winning % in 4+ seasons) because this baby is arriving during the time I usually prep for the draft? Wait a minute! ............ Oh my god I’m a nerd!!!
  • I’m pretty sure that if we have a little girl she wouldn’t have me wrapped around her little finger like some people think.

Women's Hormones

I wasn't fully prepared for a pregnant woman's raging hormones. There are days where she's not herself. I probably need to do a better job of not getting upset when she loses her mind over things that didn't really bother her a few months ago. Or maybe I should just send her flowers. Regardless I could probably use some advice on how to better handle these situations (earplugs, running away, etc.).

Big Poppa

Baby Bighead was fathered by Marc James Marseglia.

Marc was born on January 17, 1979 at Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol, PA. On the day he was born his mom commented, “He’s all arms and legs and he looks a bit scrawny, but I guess he’s mine.” Marc grew up on the Levittown and Langhorne border. He attended Samuel Everitt Elementary school in Levittown during his early days.

During his youth he played a variety of organized sports including Baseball, Soccer, Basketball, and street Hockey. While he never excelled at any of these sports he was usually adequate enough to get some playing time. From there Marc went to Neshaminy Junior high school where he played basketball and baseball and performed poorly academically. He than went to Maple Point middle school for one year leading the 9th grade football team to a dismal 1-6 record. Marc eventually graduated from Neshaminy High School in 1997.

From there Marc went on to screw around at Bucks County Community College for three grueling semesters before he foolishly gave up on his academic dreams. He worked several fulltime office jobs until 2000 when he decided to pick up everything and move to California. He left town in January of 2001 only to return in June of ’01 a broken and unguided young man.

This is when he met his future wife Katie. She gave him the inspiration to work towards his potential. He immediately re-enrolled at Bucks and received his Associates degree in Education by December of 2002. In January of 2003 he started towards his bachelor’s degree at Temple University.

Today Marc works for the state of New Jersey’s Unclaimed Property department in Trenton, NJ and still attends Temple part time. His hobbies include watching sports and following is favorite sports teams, the Eagles, Flyers, Sixers, and Phillies. He also spends a lot of his time working on the family home in preparation for the addition of Baby Big Head.
